For effective control of the giant hogweed (an invasive exotic), the giant hogweed auger is used in addition to the existing control methods: hoeing, mowing, and grazing. The giant hogweed auger removes the roots of the giant hogweed ergonomically and effectively, preventing the plant from germinating again. For effective control, it is advisable to remove the roots from the non-flowering specimens both in the spring before flowering and in the autumn.

Giant hogweed is increasingly found in rural areas, which is perceived as a problem. This is partly due to the harmful effect of the toxic substance in the plant's sap on the skin and eyes. In addition, there is no longer any crop growing under these large plants. The soil becomes impoverished and susceptible to erosion. This causes major problems, particularly along watercourses.

Since August 2017, the giant hogweed has been listed as one of the invasive plant species of the European Union. Since then, the control of giant hogweed is mandatory in the member countries. To make the control more effective and easier, Royal Eijkelkamp, in cooperation with Landschapsbeheer Flevoland, has developed this hand auger to remove the roots.

Note: Use protective clothing when removing the giant hogweed, because many people are sensitive to the toxic substance of the giant hogweed.
